WHAT’S UP?
Or as the kids say, Wassup? Listed here are special events coming up at First Christian Church, any announcements and our regular services and schedules.
November 4. A Little Noon Music. Come join us every first Friday in the sanctuary for A Little Noon Music. We have musicians of all kinds perform for about 25 minutes. This is followed by a light lunch in the fellowship hall, making a perfect lunch hour for all downtown workers to enjoy. No reservations are required and it is free (with donations accepted for lunch). If you are not already downtown, 90 minutes of free parking is available at The Tower garage, catty-cornered from the church on Taylor St.
Dear Friends,
The fires across the region have affected many Disciple families. Below is a portion of an e-message sent today by our Regional Minister. As you might expect from the news, our Bastrop congregation is the most affected right now. But messages are still coming in. If you have furniture or housewares that might help a family get started after a fire, please let me know. Or, as Dani says below, visit the Week of Compassion website and make a contribution designated to "Wildfire Relief."
Peace,
Tom (below is Dani's message)
Until the fires have burned out, there is NOT a lot that we can do beyond assisting with immediate needs. BUT...you might start gathering clothing, furniture, household goods, appliances, etc. because they will be needed as people who have been hardest hit begin to rebuild their lives.
I will pass along what I know. At present, we are aware that in the Bastrop Christian Church over 30 families have been affected. We know that there are many, many others. Check the Week of Compassion website at www.weekofcompassion.org for the latest information.
Most importantly, pray. Pray for those whose lives have been affected and pray for rain. Pray for those who are fighting the fires and those who are manning the emergency shelters. Pray for those who are facing a tomorrow that is without many of the things that they have worked hard to provide. Pray that each of us might discover a way in which we can be helpful!
Blessings,
Dani
